I have an iPhone XS running iOS 14, and it suddenly switched off, and won’t turn on again.
I tried charging, and there is no response.. I fear for the worse.
Gladly, when I connect to the computer, Finder did detect the iPhone. But it shows the iPhone is in Recovery Mode, and prompted to restore to factory setting.
You don’t have to restore!
I googled for reasons why it would be in a totally non-responsive black screen, yet in a Recovery Mode.
Turned out, it is possible. iPhone screen can be black or frozen.
The trick to restart
I always thought pressing 3 buttons (up, down, side) would shut it down.
But the instructions is this instead:
iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
- Press Up
- Press Down
- Press and hold Side
Tada~ And the Apple logo is shown.
